Living in Massachusetts, there are definitely times when I need to get a Disney fix without getting into the parks. Luckily, even in Massachusetts there are options for those who love all things Disney. While my husband took my seven year old son to see The Phantom Menace in 3D, I asked my five year old daughter what she wanted to do. Her suggestion of going to the “indoor mall that has a Disney store” worked for me. We both enjoy the chance to walk through the store, see the merchandise and hear the music being piped through the speakers. After walking through the store a few times and seeing the clips on the big screen for quite a while, my daughter was ready to head back to the car. She was satisfied with the trip.
Later the same week, we found a different way to experience Disney magic. We went to see the Disney on Ice Dare to Dream show. The show was held at the TD Garden in Boston. The show had three major sections to it which were each introduced by Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy. The first piece was based on The Princess and the Frog. It definitely helped the audience if there was familiarity with the storyline prior to attending the show. The skating was very good in this section. The costumes were bright and cheery including two performers who played Tiana and Prince Naveen as frogs.
The second section overlapped the intermission. Based on the 1950 classic Cinderella, the stepsisters provided the comic relief during the story telling. The scenes transitioned from the introduction of Cinderella, the stepmother and stepsisters, through the Fairy Godmother’s dress transformation and onto the ball. Prince Charming skated alone and then Cinderella entered the ballroom scene. As the clock struck twelve, Cinderella flees and the search is on for the owner of the glass slipper which of course results in a happy ending.
My favorite section of the show featured the story of Tangled. The performers in this section were very talented. The special effects through this part of the show were phenomenal. The inclusion of an interactive Maximus (the horse) was amazing and just as in the movie he enhanced the storyline between Rapunzel and Flynn Rider.
Although this show featured a princess theme (and concluded with a finale featuring not only the three princesses from the show but also many other classic princesses) it was enjoyable to everyone. It was a great escape for a few hours to the world of Disney without the expense of packing the family up and leaving the state.
