Who's Who Wednesday: Dippy Dawg

So I bet when you saw the title, most of you were wondering, who the heck is Dippy Dog? Well This was actually the name given to none other than Goofy. He first appeared in a short in 1932 called Mickeys Revue. Here he played an audience member watching a song and dance number being performed by Mickey, Minnie, Horace and Clarabelle. He was the clumsy, loud, annoying Goofy that we have all come to love today, crunching peanuts too loudly. It wasn't until his seventh appearance that he took the actual name of Goofy and became a regular member of the gang. Also a member of the Fab Five. We always see Goofy as a clumsy, unintelligent and loud character. He is, however, a very lovable, caring friend and father. Goofy is a widower and single parent to Max. He is somewhat strict when he needs to be and tries to raise him to be a responsible adult. In Goofy's movie, A Goofy Movie, we get a glimpse of the relationship between the two with Max as a teenager. Max is sometimes embarrassed by his father's goofiness. In the Extremely Goofy Movie, Goofy is an empty nester because Max has gone off to college. Goofy becomes depressed, loses his job and has to go to college to get a new one. Of course he chooses to go where Max is! Their relationship is tested but in the end Goofy realizes that he must let Max live his own life. Goofy finds love with Sylvia, the librarian, gets his degree and leaves Max to be. Goofy also appears in many Disney movies, such as Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas, Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas, Mickey, Donald and Goofy: The Three Musketeers and has a cameo appearance in The Lion King 1 1/2. He has also been in several television shows like Mickey Mouse Works, House of Mouse, Mickey Mouse Club House and his own show, Goof Troop. In 1979, there was a song about Goofy on the Mickey Mouse Disco album (yes I have my original copy) called Watch Out for Goofy. You can hear the track on YouTube and possibly iTunes. Visitors can see Goofy in all of the parks, whether it be in parades, shows, meet and greets or attractions. The Great Goofini will be a new roller coaster opening this year in the Fantasyland expansion. Goofy even has his own candy store, Goofy's Candy Co. that can be found in Downtown Disney. This is one of my favorite places to shop! Goofy is a character that I think so many of us can relate to. We all have our awkward, absentminded, clumsy moments. He is just someone that reminds us of ourselves. Everyone loves his unmistakable gawrsh and ah-hyuck laugh. He is a kind and good hearted character. just watch out for Goofy!
